not at all, you can modify mybb as much as you want. considering you keep the copyright information intact

there are a couple of good advertiser programs:
- google adsense
- adbrite
The copyright information is the following lines, found at the bottom of a mybb forum:

In all seriousness, you may want to consider skipping the advertisements until the site gets some traffic. Ads can reduce the traffic, so if you're not a "place to visit" yet, you will bring in very little money each day, which will take many, many months (at best) to hit Adwords or Adbrites minimum payout. You're also using a free host that also puts their own popup in front of your site, which makes it even more difficult to bring in visitors. Of course, that's completely up to you.
