Is it possible to ban certain email domains from being used as registration email addresses? For example, if i want to stop spambots from using mail.ru as email domain, is it possible to ban that domain in advance so it never ever can be used as registration email domain? Like use *.mail.ru for banning....

It would be great to have a MOD which does that.

Yeah, i think it would be a considerable relief for administrators to know that penis enlargement offers and Viagra peddlers could be stopped before they even register. Im not sure, but i think i have seen that functionality built in into other forum software.....Could it have been SMF? Absolutely not sure though....
Currently in 1.2, you just need to enter .mail.ru in to the banned email addresses list and that whole domain will be blacklisted. (You do this via Settings > Change Settings > Banning Options > Ban by Emails.

1.4 supports specific wildcards/masks.

Wonderful, thank you, Mr Boulton for that. The exact syntax for it is then .mail.ru, no wildcards like *@mail.ru involved?
Sorry - enter @mail.ru.

Right, got it! Toungue
Thanks Chris. It would have been perfect to have a MOD which does Email Verification / Validation and then ban invalid ones. Spammers usually use invalid email addresses. Once they discover that the @mail.ru is banned in a particular forum, they will use invalid email addresses. It's a vicious circle.

That's why we have verification codes emailed out or random passwords. This means that the account is not usable until they click the link provided in the email or log in using the password they were mailed. If the email account is fake, they can't activate the account. Their loss.
To enable this:
Admin CP --> Board Settings --> Change --> User Registration and Profile Options --> Registration Method
Either 'Send Email Verification' or 'Send Random Password' should do the job to prevent fake email addresses being used.

Thanks rh1n0. I was actually thinking of stopping them at the registration point without having to have them in the awaiting activation list, and then having to remove them later on.
