No, it is not a risk.
However, the newer versions of PHP have updated security codes, which gives it better security protection.
It is highly recommended that you use at least PHP 7.0.xx or newer.

PHP 5.6 still receives security fixes until the end of this year: https://php.net/supported-versions.php (even slightly longer than PHP 7.0)
