Hi guys, I am a noob and I am going to build a home server + a forum.
Apparently there are many editions of Linux OS, its very hard to make up my mind.
So...what OS would you recommend, in terms of security, resource & user friendly ?

It will work fine on Ubuntu. CentOS is mostly used by many servers.

Go with one of the more popular distros. 

Ubuntu, CentOS, or Tails are good options.
