That "most recent" message doesn't exist.

It looks to me that there is a counter somewhere that is off by 1.

first referred issue was reported few times - not sure if it had a clear fix !

for the second issue, you may have to update your language pack
if you are using British pack then switch over to American pack.

Also you have to use a theme compatible with MyBB 1.8.x
