Im all against restrictions and forcing them into effect especially when we are talking about open projects like MyBB.

No one is "forced". Read the source code in the footer template. It says "we ask you" and it states what will be the usual reaction if the credits are removed. It's everyone's own decision to keep or remove the credits/copyright line. One is warned of the consequences and can decide whether one wants to face these consequences or not. "Free software" does not mean "free from conditions of fair use".

I agree with both but i also support giving credit where credit is due.
