I use the standard editor that comes with the MyBB software, no plugin. If I want to edit a post, it provides post with the source code, irrespective of whether I use that function (the last button on the editor function above) or not. Pressing that "View source" button makes no difference.

Any suggestion greatly appreciated!

Looks like a frontend (editor) parser failure which may happen due to other js failure.
