Try reverting the CODEBUTTONS template that is located in the 'Ungrouped' section of the theme templates.

Upload a fresh jscripts/sceditor folder from the new MyBB update and replace all the editor files.

I tried that too. First using the upgrade files - no joy - then I uploaded all the files in the new jscript folder.
Still having the same problem.

Edit: not all your themes are updated. I see that your forum is on 1.8.21.
Upgraded to the latest version 1.8.21
No editor plugin used - just the editor that is built into MyBB
I went the ACP and clicked configuration>plugins and got this error message:

The error above will be unrelated. Either remove that plugin (akismet.php) from the plugins folder or see what's wrong on line 512 of it's plugin file.

Right - it was not related, but thank you. I removed the akismet.php file from the plugins folder - error gone. I disabled both installed plugins (Advanced Side Box and Board Announcements) and tested - no change in original problem.???
