Sorry for basic question.  Anybody with experience of getting started with ONE?

I have a hosting package on ONE, but my domain isn't live yet as I am moving and need to get it all done before I move.

I just looking for some advice on how to get the installer into my file space (can I simply upload compressed file using the ONE file manager).  Then how do I execute and interact with it?

Don't upload the zipped file.
Extract its content and upload all the files from the Upload directory to your web directory (with a ftp client), and then use your browser to go on the install page.
Your hoster may have give you a temp url (usually https://ip.address.of.server/~user/), so go to https://ip.address.of.server/~user/install/ and it will laucnh the installation process.
Think to have your DB infos (host, dbname, login, password).

Seems they can't offer me a temp URL. I have to use their file manager to upload. What I can't get a simple answer to is then how do I run the install application/script

If you must use their file manager, use it.
But if they don't give you a temporary url, you'll have to wait for the complete move of your domain to install MyBB.
