I have tried every suggestion made in the threads available on teh subject in this forum and had no success getting this to work with either .ico or .png.
Any other suggestions would be welcome.
The
other thread was for old MyBB versions. It needs updating.
That's HTML code, has nothing to do with new nor old MyBB code.
Generally if you just put a "favicon.ico" file in your webserver's root public HTTP directory, your browser will pick it up for the whole domain.
I have just tried it again without any success.
Removed all previous changes and simply left the .ico in the root directory.
Are any special permissions required?
What browser are you using? If it's Firefox it can take a while (up to a day) for the favicon to re-cache.
