Hello.

The problem is as follows. If I install any theme on a fresh 1.8.21 install that's not the MyBB default theme, users can stay logged in if they already did, but they cannot login on the themes. Either it simply keeps saying the login is wrong (even though the same login works on the default theme) or it will say it has an authorization code mismatch.

Is this a new bug in 1.8.21, do the themes mess something they shouldn't and how can I resolve this issue?

Maybe your installed themes are out-dated.

Check this thread https://community.mybb.com/thread-218862.html for manually updating theme templates.

However, if a user is trying to access the forum and login via different IPs, the user may still encounter the "authorization code mismatch" issue. For this kind of problem, there's no fix for now.

I'll try that solution and report back if this solves it.
