I have the 1.82 version. I'm trying to change the forum name and category. I'm sure its simple, but I can't figure it out.

are you sure you're editing the correct setting? It looks like you're trying to create a new forum.
I'm trying to create my own forum and a category. I'm all confused.

What are you trying to create? Categories are where the forums go in (little blue headers in the default theme), and forums are the things that are inside the categories. When you create a forum, you have to choose which category it belongs inside, and the order it's going to display in if there are other forums in that category?
OK. So I create a category first, and then create forum?
Now I get "invalid forum ID" error.

First create a category, yes - for that, select 'none' for the parent forum.
Then create a forum, and select the category you made as its parent forum.
