Using myBB 1.8 which, all in all, has been great.

I am trying to prevent spammers from even logging in until they have been activated by me. I read through the documentation and tried all the suggestions, but it appears that even while awaiting activation, a user can still log in to the forum and look at and/or reply to posts.

Is there a config setting that prevents a user from being able to login until they have been activated by an admin?

Apologies if I have missed this setting and thanks in advance for any assistance.
awaiting activation user can see thread content but cannot reply.
of course, posting privileges are set through group permissions.

forum admin panel >> users & groups >> groups >> Awaiting Activation >>
Forums and Posts (tab)

in Viewing Options there you can un-select "Can view board?" & save settings
that results in this set of error messages for awaiting activation group members

above setting may be also un-selected for guests group
