I need your help with this issue.
I have a MyBB forum on a shared hosting account and during this time people started to say
they didn't get the registration e-mails with the exception of Gmail.
Because of it, they had to be manually activated.
Your advice on the email service you use would be great
one that doesn't land all the registration emails on the junk folder or doesn't even deliver them.
I do not mind having to pay an email service to get it done properly since I am noticing that people don't come back because of these issues
I myself use GMail free SMTP service.

I tried Gmail but I am getting errors after I activated IMAP forwarding

With my hosting things don't work, people don't get the email for account activation instructions except for gmail and that is driving me insane
I am wondering if that isn't a problem inside my installation of MyBB since the account activations never really worked

To be honest I haven't check if my emails are delivered to other providers out of GMail.
With my hosting company email I had those issues
I tried using gmail and I think I did everything ok can you please check with your setting because mine unfortunately is giving me errors
on SSL:465 or TLS:587

So your users get emails for gmail or they don't at all? It is weird that you mention they do get emails if they use Gmail but even so have an authentication error.
Follow @JordanMussi's link as it sounds to me like you need to use an app password (described in the link).
