A reminder tool will be so usefull in the case when some topics(threads) are whether missed for a long time, or incomplete forum.
what i mean by that, is that sometimes someone post something but no boby reply, and in other times, a thread reach a point when there is no solution for it, (for example a problem with some software), and the case applies that the last poster was the original poster of the thread.
and as many forums doesn't allow double posting, or some at least after 72 hours, i think it's better to have something that stop double posting at all.
that will be a reminder button next to the edit post, that will only work after 72 or 48 hours of the actual last post, and will set the thread as some thread that was answered, so it will appear again in the new threads list ( moved to the top of the list) and marked as unread to all the members.
i hope my suggestion take a nice acceptance from your side.
