Full Version: multiple htaccess files
You're currently viewing a stripped down version of our content. View the full version with proper formatting.
While checking files in cpanel,
I found 4 files of htaccess with a different date in public_html directory.
I had previously updated my 186 to 1822 before 1 month.
Please guide which htaccess files to be removed from my web directory as I want to upgrade now from 1822 to 1823.

Yesterday 1.18 pm files .htaccess.montool.1595144913.bak and .htaccess_ may be created by hosting provider for checking as yesterday I was not able to access phpmyadmin.
basically .htaccess without any other suffix is the file used for rewrite URLs.
other files are backups of old version / were made for testing as you mentioned.
in .htaccess (25 JUne 2020) file there are many rewrite commands which I never seen.
Can I Delete .htaccess (25 JUne 2020) and rename htaccess.txt (29 Dec 2019) to .htaccess as it is from 1822 file.
I want to upgrade to 1823.

When I done upgrade from 186 to 1822, I don't rename htaccess.txt file in 1822 package after extraction 1822 file is public_html folder. So I am asking baove.

I know there is no effect by doing upgrade through changed file package.
But
I want to keep right .htaccess file in public_html.
Please guide.

Final Conclusion and suggestion of my thread is as below:

When I done upgrade from 1806 to 1822, I did not rename htaccess.txt file inside 1822 package after extract to my board directory. So in my directory after upgrade there is .htaccess file of 1806 and htaccess.text file of 1822.

So my question is than can I delete .htaccess of 1806 and rename htaccess.txt of 1822 to .htaccess ?

If yes, Will it affect anything?
Because in .htaccess of 1806, there are many rewrite commands that I don't know.

Please help as I want to upgrade from 1822 to 1823.

I know it will not affected if I upgrade from 1822 to 1823 with changed files package as it has no htaccess.txt file. So if I upgrade with changed file package then I can delet .htaccess of 1806 and rename htaccess.txt of 1822 to .htaccess.

if I upgrade 1822 with full package of 1823 than what to do with htaccess.txt file inside full package of 1823 . As already in my public_html directory .htaccess file of 1806 present.

Hope you guys understand what I am try to explain.
Please.
Thank you.
