and also what is MyBB groups functionality is it a plugin or build in as i would like to use this

Can you check your error log or make sure that your board is set to show errors?

how can i do this sorry i am bit of a noob

Go to your Forum home root directory where you will see a file named "error.log" .

just open that file and copy the text and paste here.
