I don't want my users to just choose a random username. I would like to encourage them to use their actual names.
What is the best way for me to do that?
Facebook integration
And make register on forum only "login with facebook
That might work, but I'm not a big fan of Facebook.

Any other suggestions?
There's no way you could force them as such, but you could add a note to the register page asking them to use their real names.
The only way to "force" it without using a social media login would be to manually approve registrations to make sure they're using their real name... it's impossible for a script to determine whether a username is a real name or not.
For the moment what I'm doing is that I edited the "Username:" text in the registration box to read :Username: (please use Firstname_Lastname)". Hopefully that will take care of most of it.

Is there a way for people who do it "wrong" to change it afterwards, or would they need to delete and register again?
Unless you have specific group restrictions, they can change their username in the UserCP.

cheers...
