I have searched everywhere on the Mod website and i cannot find anything on it, but erm, is there a mod where the new registered members get a PM welcoming them to the site and just giving them a customizable message?

DennisTT did create a plugin which does this, it's located http://mods.mybboard.com/view.php?did=130
Please be aware however that the plugin still only appears to be for MyBB 1.0.* and as such may not work on MyBB 1.1.*. You should be able to try it if you wish though.
