I've tried upgrading to the latest version. Backed up database and saved all the files. Uploaded new files to Upload directory in the root on the server under the directory Upload. My site is
www.fotofriends.net so I entered
https://www.fotofriends.net/Upload/install/upgrade.php and nothing happens, just a blank screen. According to the documentation that I looked at for "upgrade", I should have been taken to a screen where I can go through the upgrade. My only thought is that perhaps I need to do a full update since I am going more than 1 version up. Just worried that I will wipe out everything and have to start over. Any advice?
Yes, use the Full Package for 1.8.29 to update MyBB from an older version. Additional data files like plugins and attachments won't be overwritten.
Transfer the contents of Upload/
, rather than the directory itself - then the upgrade script should be available at https://www.fotofriends.net/install/upgrade.php
.
OK, there is a boatload of files in the Upload directory, including many that are already in the root directory. If I copy all the files in the unzipped Upload directory into the root directory via ftp, will that not write over some of the files already in the website root? Like I mentioned I don't want to hose up the entire site.
It will overwrite, it's intented to overwrite.
If you haven't do any core modification, all will be ok, that's the normal upgrade process.
Upgrade appears to be successful. Thanks.
After updating, make sure to check your theme
