What do you think the next mybb version will be?
I think it will be 1.8.30
Will it work with latest version of PHP?
You mean 8.1? I doubt because MyBB does not fully support 8.0 (at least for me)

There are no known major issues on PHP 8.1 in MyBB 1.8.29.
All errors related to PHP 8 reported so far (
https://github.com/mybb/mybb/issues/4485) will be addressed in the next maintenance release.
If you encountered any errors, or noticed some were saved in the
error log, you can paste them here or on GitHub.
Just returned to MyBB. Kinda crazy that development on 2.0 has been halted.

Unfortunately the size of the project was too large for a team of 2-3 active developers, so we pivoted to incrementally updating the 1.x series instead.
