Is there a "Changed Files" upgrade package to go from 1.8.29 to the new 1.8.30 ?
Or do we have to completely replace all files in the full 1.8.30 download package?
only replace files nothing more.

/inc

Just As @Mostafa.Shiraali has said.

You will find info about changed files and can download the changed files from https://mybb.com/versions/1.8.30/
OK, thank you.  So I just shutdown forum, replace these two files and then just start my forum again?  No upgrade scripts or any extra steps required?

No, follow the post above. You can also find tips here.

You don't need to close the forum if it's just replacing files.

I think I am still a little unsure as to whether I need to download the entire package to run the installation/upgrade script or, what I think you are saying - to simply replace the two files in these /admin and /inc folders without shutting down the forum first and job done.

Is this correct?
Instructions are available on the release notes: https://mybb.com/versions/1.8.30/

“To upgrade from the previous version: copy and overwrite files from the Changed Files package.”

So if you are currently on 1.8.29, you simply need to upload the files from the changed files package and you are upgraded.

its much simpler than last upgrades as it is just 2 files but i'm confused and yes i followed path for the one in admin dir all the way to it, so open to ideas

Sounds to me like you didn't upload the files correctly.  The Changed Files package consists of 2 files alright, but you need to keep the relative path intact.  Changed files upload folders look like this:

[attachment=44997]

So you need to upload that folder structure to the root of where your forum is installed.  Support can correct me if wrong - but the version number is in class_core.php - which is NOT in the admin folder.
