I am upgrading from 1.8.5 to 1.8.30 so reading the installation documentation it says I need to do a full 
installation (Please correct me if this is wrong) what happens with the existing MySQL database during    
installation? will it be overwritten? or will the new installation use it as it is?

You don’t need to do a new installation as that will override your data. You need to upload the full 1.8.30 package over your current files and go to /install/upgrade.php. Make sure to take a database backup first.

hi Matt, i must do the same thing:
move the old 1.8.26 site to the new 1.8.30
you say: take a database backup, first.
but for "files" ???
