hi, i have 1 site of movies that work great.
this is based on mybb 1.8.26.
now i would like to upgrade it to the 1.8.30 version.

before to destroy all the site that has at least 1.000 movies posted,
i have open another empty site based on mybb 1.8.30

i have read, before to install or upgrade the site,
to save the "database" and "files" from the old site.

for the "database" i think to have saved it correctly.
i go to admin in the site.
on the top i press "tools & maintenance".
on the left "database backups".
i press "new backup".
on the left i choose "select all".
in the center-right side i don't change selections,
there are:
file type = gzip
save method = download
backup contents = structure and data
analyze... = yes
after i press the perform backup button,
and the entire database i can see stored in my pc.

but for "save files" before upgrade mybb, i don't know where to go.

right now i would try to add the saved database on the new mybb site (empty with 1.8.30)
but also here, i don't know how to upload the saved database and where.

can someone help me to do all correct ???
thank very much.
You don't need to install a clean copy of 1.8.30 first, you just need to upgrade the existing forum.

To take a backup of your files, you would need to download them via FTP, so the same way you upload files, but download them to your computer instead so you have them as a backup. cPanel also has a way to create a zip of the web folder you can then download.

However, going back to the upgrade process, you don't need to install 1.8.30 first, you need to upload the 1.8.30 files over your current files and then go to /install/upgrade.php to upgrade. Taking a backup of the files and database is just a precaution incase the upgrade goes wrong, it's not standard to have to restore the backup to a clean installation (as you would still need to upgrade it anyway).
