SUCCESS.

After much worrying about the limited skills with Linux servers which I forgot over the years and the potential for wiping out my board, I managed to successfully upgrade to v.1.8.30 to go along with PHP 7.4.28! Love the new look and features ... will encourage me to pay more attention to upgrades going forward.

Files verified, and now just checking all the settings to be the way I want them before putting the board back up then maybe going for a ride!

Thanks to Matt and others who provided some guidance, and also kudos to the MyBB upgrade documentation and install wizard.
Glad to hear it went well!

Thanks!

I do have one last question you may be able to answer, and it has to do with SSL protection.

The sub-domain in which my forum software is installed (https://rswasserboxer.com) is protected by an SSL certificate and displays correctly. The forum is installed in a subdirectory of that sub-domain (../R1200RSforum) and I would expect that, through inheritance, it too would be protected.

However, when "https://" is used for the forum URL, it is as if the stylesheets are not being used, and when "http://" (without the "s") is used the forum displays correctly.

My hosting service says that the SSL certificate extends to sub-folders, and if it were not working to some degree I shouldn't see anything (?) but I do, just that the page is not displayed right.

Edge's information on the security of the page suggests that it is "Not fully secure (no valid certificate)" although the parent folder's contents (parent website) presents no such issue.

Any thoughts?
Go to ACP > Configuration > Site Details, your Board URL here has http:// and needs to be set to https://

You'll then ideally want to set up a redirect to force http:// traffic to go to https://, which should be possible in your hosting control panel somewhere.

I can't believe I missed that in the Site Details! It worked of course. Yes on the redirects ... good idea. I just had to update the links in the main website ... couple were not "https". All good now. Thanks again Matt.  Smile
