Great of you, because as you said, this mybb Google SEO plugin is much cumbersome and error-prone, or the structure is hardly understandable by any forum owner and easy to install or set.
Simplicity would be the approach!
This is not a plugin but an additionnal page, and it doesn't care about forum permissions. You'd better have a look at
ABP Sitemap which have some settings.

True this is just a simple PHP page without additional configuration. That being said; less is more
