ACP > Configuration > Show Thread Options > Delayed Thread View Updates, if this is enabled then disable it.
If it's already disabled, can you list your plugins, as it's usually a plugin that causes this issue.

Try disabling the MentionMe plugin first as I think that's been known to cause it. If not, disable plugins one by one until you find the one causing it.
