I did a fresh install of MyBB forum software. My admin control panel tells me the following, when I search for updates:

Congratulations, you are running the latest version of MyBB.

Your Version
Latest Version 1.8.30 (1830)
  • URL to your forum/URL to specific problematic page
https://playbymail.net/forum/index.php
  • New installation or upgrade (from which version of MyBB)?

New installation.
  • Test user account (if it requires additional permissions)
I can provide, if needed.
  • Screenshot or error text, verbatim

The black icon doesn't want to clear. And if I use the Mark all forums read link at the bottom of the forum index page, it still doesn't want to clear. When I click on the black icon, it clears, but then when I reload the page, it reappears.

I did that, just now, but I've also done that more than once, before, to no avail.

I also had someone else try that, and they experienced the same problem.
Works for me here, not logged in, browsing as guest.
Screenshot sequence clicking on Mark Posts Read.
Using latest Firefox, Ctrl-F5 reloads page and forum read status is consistent.
@HLFadmin, it appears you are only clicking the the icons themselves individually for each forum. This is not the issue the thread starter is referring to. They are talking about the link in the very bottom footer that says "Mark all forums read".

----

Anyways I created a test account (Taylor M) to see if this was something only logged in users experience, as when attempting this as a guest it worked immediately.

After logging in as a registered member I actually had to click the link, then log out, and log back in to view the changes.

Although I do not have a solution the above information could be helpful/useful for someone with a little more knowledge about what the issue could be seeing as its only when logged in.

@GrimFinger feel free to delete my account. I hope you are able to find a solution for this soon!
I have verified function is as @TaylorM described. Not the way it's supposed to be, that's for sure.
Use phpMyAdmin to examine what is happening in mybb_forumsread table. I used this query to show a single user activity.
SELECT *, FROM_UNIXTIME(`dateline`) FROM `mybb_forumsread` WHERE uid=1384
On my forum, it shows forums read since 7/31 to 8/8. I believe there's a task which trims the table.

A click on the forum button should create an entry of the single forum with the current timestamp. A click on the Mark All Forums Read should create an entry for all forums with the current timestamp.

Looking at what happens in the table should help identify what is being done and not done.

mybb_threadsread table tracks individual threads as well.

And one different problem noted is a malformed discord link identified as 404 error. Something is calling a link

[edit to add]
I note that /inc/functions_indicators.php contains the functions for forums read and threads read. There is a db case statement series for sqlite which is coded differently than default, and that pgsql appears to be unsupported. What database system are you running?

This, I think, may have ended up being the problem.

So, I deleted it, and the problem stopped - even though I think that I had deleted it previously, and it didn't stop at that time. Either way, it's now working fine. I did give it a couple of days to make sure, before I came back here to report.

I appreciate the help, everyone.
