Where is the setting to set my message board to list threads by newest post first?

I'm not sure what you mean, they're sorted by newest post first by default, the same as they are here. I don't think it can even be changed. They're ordered by when the thread was last posted in, not when the thread was posted.

if you mean threads in forumdisplay sorted by last post on thread,mybb do not have this setting , so you can do one of this .
1) if you know about PHP,you can change forumdisplay.php .
2) find some one to do this for you for free or with plugin.
3) I can do it with or without plugin for you non-free

Unless you mean the thread listing inside of a board then in that case you can sort the way posts are shown. I believe what you're looking for is thread creation time in sort by. This would be in board settings for each board under "additional options".
