Like the installation and Upgrade script, It is better if this community is included with some repair script.

The script can controlled from the admin panel an on that time, keep the forum offline. The script normally need to check the errors on the forum and fix it. Better way to do it is:

• Make a script which is capable of backup the full database and stored in a file.
  
• Deactivate the plugins used by the forum first.
  
• Reinstall the forum with current version.
  
• And then activate plugins.
  
• Then after all, replace the current tables with the backup database.
  

Hope that this will really helps the community to make a unique feature on forums.

Erm, if at the end you are replacing the new database with the old one, then turning off plugins is going to achieve nothing. In fact, if the problem is with the database, then the "repair" script won't solve anything.

So essentially you can remove steps 1, 2, 4, and 5 from the above list and just manually upload the new forum files.

I don't think a script is needed to do that.
