Hello,

Since I had several issues with PhP8 and MyBB forum, I first decided to go back to PhP 7.4 for a while.

Now, since I have to install other apps on my (shared) server, which require to use PhP 8, I asked the hosting service (BlueHost) to update to PhP 8; but now my forum does not work at all! There is a HTTP ERROR 500 when trying to open it (https://mwrenaissance.info/).

I have backup of the database. Is there a way to easily restore the forum while keeping PhP 8?
Any idea to fix this? (again, it's a shared server and I am a newbie, I can't use commands, linux, etc.).
Can I fix things by reinstalling MyBB? Or using a FTP or a file manager?

 you have three way :
1. you can enable debug mode in forum and fix errors one by one (you can find solutions in mybb community or other websites).
2. if you like you can order to me or any programmer you like and do this for you and fix mybb problems with PHP 8 (also some plugins)
3. if you are using a dedicated server you can install multiple php versions and use each one for specific domains

Which version of MyBB do you use ? Did you upgrade to the last one ?

1. But the forum main page does not open at all. It's blank now, with a 500 error message. I've totally lost access to the website (the only way is to revert to PhP 7, but I need PhP 8 for others applications).

2. If there is no easy solution or workaround, why not? 

3. As I said, I do not have a dedicated server, it's a shared host service (BlueHost). The server can handle different PhP 8 version (8.1, 8.2 and 8.3) for subdomain, but not PhP 7 and PhP 8 at the same time. Moeover, PhP 7 is marked depreciated and no more recommended.

Yes, it's the last one (1.8.37), I checked the version before I upgrade the website to PhP 8.
I only have 3 very basic plugins installed (one for announcement, one for spoiler, one for posting link to pictures).

Yes, I've read this sometime ago, so I do not plan to reinstall everything.

Please follow bv64’s advice and do not uninstall/reinstall.

Have you checked for entries in the error log to help identify what’s causing it?

Yes, I will not reinstall, I understand that I may get a lof of troubles.
Where and how can I found the error log when I cannot access the forum nor the administration interface?
Can I get it through FTP?

EDIT: ok, I found an error.log in BlueHost Cpanel, there are mention of my NextCloud installation (that failed) and a Wordpress website that is not finished, but I do not see errors related to MyBB forum. Here it is:

BAM is a MyBB plugin for displaying announcement on the forum.
Could it be the reason of the failure?

OK... Great news! I removed BAM.php from the plugin directory, now I can open the Website again.
But there are 3 big error messages displaid at the top of the forum main page:

Disable DVZ shoutbox and BAM announcements from ACP > Configuration > Plugins

These are template errors. One is in 'index' template, other is in 'header' template. Find the variable and updated or remove, or you can disable the plugins. Make sure you are using the latest plugin versions to be compatible with PHP 8.

In ACP > Configuration > Plugins :  there is no DVZ shoutbox or BAM announcements at all.
I could find some templates and delete lines with errors (shoutbox and BAM related).
But, navigating in the forum, I can discover new errors in several threads...
For example:

[2] Undefined variable $codebutquick - Line: 31 - File: showthread.php(1308) : eval()'d code PHP 8.1.27 (Linux)

But, in the theme templates, I cannot find a "showthread" templace with "$codebutquick".
How can I search all the templates from the Admin control panel???

In the middle, there is this line:

It was is 'showthread_quickreply' and not within 'showthread', that's why I could not find it.
Should I delete the  {$codebutquick} ? Is it safe?
Or should I revert this template to the original? Will it break my theme?

It is safe to delete. It's from a third-party plugin, and not standard in the template structure itself.
