This may not belong here, but in the last 2 - 3 days no users at forum-styles are getting any emails for anything.

And I'm out of my depth here Sad

It appears that some servers are now NOT accepting mail without rDNS, and Servage (forum-styles.com) has stopped sending mail. Or more importantly, other mail servers are rejecting the mail from Servage because MyBB is using sendmail. ?? And / or Spam Blockers may be causing a problem. Or because whoever the MTAgent is, has a bad reputation.

Don't know ??? And I don't really understand the ramifications here either.

The Trouble Ticket you entered into the Members Section of Servage.net has
been modified. The following notes have been made to your ticket.

------------------------------------------------

Hello Lopalong,

Thanks for the code.

The reason the email is not sent is because the recipient mail server rejects the email.

Nov 1 13:20:03 c33 postfix/smtp[736]: 9FB1DA38290: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=42664, status=deferred (connect to as-av.iinet.net.au[203.0.178.180]: server refused to talk to me: 554-inbound.icp-qv1-irony-in7.iinet.net.au 554 Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA\'s poor reputation. If you believe that this failure is in error, please contact the intended recipient via alternate means. )

It does not suggest how to fix it, so we can unfortunately not help.

This appears an alternative patch:

So do I have to patch MyBB or change servers ?
This error isn't caused by MyBB nor do I know what is going wrong either. Your host is pretty stupid if they don't know how to fix their own mail server. We are the last ones you should be contacting
I use Servage and have relatively no problems with emails being recieved. Servage does use static IPs for accounts. Is it possible the IP you are on has been blacklisted? Check known blacklists. If you are then ask Servage to assign you a new IP and explain the problem.

http://www.mybbcentral.com/memberlist.php

Mybb central is on servage...as you can see...daily signups and posts from activated members.

btw...next version of mybb 1.4 will use SMTP so you can use Google servers for email if you choose (I know I will). And reading those other sites...it appears the problem is iinet and their spam filtering.
Tikitiki Wrote:We are the last ones you should be contacting

I know Tiki, but I've done everything that I know of, (phpinfo, mailtest which all tested OK) and was looking for anyone who could throw more light on the subject, as it's not only affecting my IP provider. Sad
Thanks labrocca, Wink

I knew it was shared and not static, but the blacklist check was one avenue that didn't cross my mind. Sad

Hell! I had enough of a problem understanding what any of it was. Toungue

Here we go again!. Big Grin
The closing chapter. Smile

Kind regards,
Allan, Servage Hosting

My Response:

You should fix it, it's your problem.

iinet Wrote:Hi David,

Thank you very much for your query at IINET

Basically I have dig bit more information and I found the problem to,

The IP address from where you are not able to receive emails haven't got Reverse DNS entry on them and that's what the problem is

You can check that by going to www.dnsstuff.com

I have check it in the mean time

The result is as follows

Answer:
77.232.80.27 PTR record: 77-232-80-27.static.servage.net. [TTL 86400s] [A=None] *ERROR* There is no A record for 77-232-80-27.static.servage.net. (May be negatively cached)

iiNet's mail servers have up until recently, happily accepted email from any IP address.

As part of our continued efforts to fight spam, Network Operations have instituted a policy were we now only accept email from IP addresses with a reverse DNS entry.
Reason being, that Trojans/viruses can start sending email from any IP address. You don't need to be an email server to send email. Hence, any computer can start sending out 100's or 1000's of emails. This is one of the chief causes of spam.

Now, our email servers check what IP address the email is coming from and see if it has a reverse DNS entry. If it doesn't, we can't confirm the source as legitimate, so our (anti-spam) system will delete it.
77.232.80.27 PTR record: 77-232-80-27.static.servage.net.

You have a static...tell Servage they need to add a PTR and rDNS record. Give them the error listed above and ask them to please fix it. It just seems like you have a bad DNS entry possibly. How long have you had the servage account? Maybe it's old and needs to be updated to new standards.
Thanks Labrocca,

This thing is keeping me awake at night. And hopefully you hit the nail on the head; because Servage hasn't. Wink

I quoted your post to them. The error message they already responded to with "this is not important, that's not important etc" Sad

Hopefully you know more than the person who sent that reply. Big Grin

I also know my IP range was subjected to an upgrade recently and was on and off line while it was happenning and anything could have gone wrong ?

The Account: 2 - 3 months ago I moved to Servage.
Is your site the one in the footer? forum-styles.com

I will sign up and see if I get activation email to my gmail account.

http://www.dnscolos.com/dnsreport.php

That shows the same issue for your site as mybbcentral.com.
Both the main and demo site have the same problems - 2 forums, 2 databases ??
