In my opinion, the administrating/moderating team should never have to leave because of members. If you care enough about your community; come to an understanding with those who have the problem with you and sort out your issues.
Walking away from something that you started shows your lack of interest/dedication.. or perhaps that you take what you do seriously and do not like being talked about behind your back when you try so hard.
Either way, you're letting your moderating team and community down.

Just my thoughts, do as you will.
