I'm already on php5, all of my applications use php5 and MySQL 5 Big Grin
Great to hear Big Grin

My VPS runs all php5 and sql5 so this is fantastic news Big Grin

Well done Chris and team!
Isn't this a bit unfair towards people whose hosting providers only have support for PHP 4? I understand PHP 5 makes everything much easier and faster, but people cannot force hosting companies to make support for PHP 5 available (even though I do think all hosts should upgrade whenever a new version is available). Wouldn't more people continue to use MyBB if support for PHP 4 remains available? Because many hosting companies still only provide support for PHP 4 and don't seem to plan to change that anytime soon.
PHP4 has had it's end of life, that's it. No more patches for security or any other type of flaws in the 4.x branch of PHP ever again. Any host who wants to continue to use an out of date, and now potentially vulnerable version of PHP must be insane.

Regardless, MyBB 1.4 will still support PHP4.
I just asked my host yesterday if they would upgrade to PHP 5.2.2 and they did! It was 4.4.7
The PHP 4 support will be dropped with the next major release (e.g. 1.6.0 or 2.0.0) after 1.4.x. This will be a ways off (unless a miracle happens) since MyBB 1.4 hasn't even been released yet. So there is still time to persuade your webhost to switch to PHP 5, or to move off to another host.

PHP 4 will still have critical security fixes released until August 8th of this year. If your host is still on PHP 4 after that date, it's time to ask the question: Do you really still want to stick with this host which offers you outdated and insecure technologies?
I believe php 5.8 Is discontinued because it has many bugs...

it may have been php 5.7 , not sure so they recently released a new version
That's what I like about the host that I use - I have both of the newest versions of PHP4 & PHP5, and I can switch between the twoBig Grin
It was 5.2.7, now their's 5.2.8 so nothing to worry about.
It's great . giving more options to us
