If I understand you correctly, whatever you write in a forum is written to the database immediately after posting, and the search will show the results of your last post immediately, and so you don't have to update anything--it's all automatic.

Sorry, what do you mean by a "search index"?

MyBB's search feature handles all the searching. Indexes etc are handled by MySQL. When a new post/thread is made, it can be found if searched for - there isn't any delay.

The search log only saves the "query" of the search. The posts/threads are grabbed using that query each time you load the search, thus once you make a post/thread that fits in the query, you will see it when you reload the search results.
