Can someone ease my mind on this upgrade path please? Is there any chance that I will loose my plugins or custom post bit icons?
If I follow the Upgrade directions found in the Wiki I have nothing to worry about right?

You won't loose anything
Some plugins that are used in your indexpage such as eventsonindex, grouplegend and whosonlinetoday will probably not function properly anymore; updates for those can be found in the appropriated forumsection. But if you follow the instructions during the upgrade guide you should be fine.

You probably gonna deactivate and activate it again, since you need to revert your index template while updating =P
The index template is slightly changed between 1.2.9 and 1.2.10; well mostly the 'boardstats' part that's why those plugins ^ don't function anymore.
Easy as cake. The Overview mod is still there and everything appears to be all good.
