I recently added new smilies to my forum but they appear like red Xs. What should I do? Does mybb support .gif format? Maybe that's the problem.

MyBB certianly supports them. Can you check that they are image locations are mapped to the images correctly?

I can see them in the 'smilies list' but they change to red X when I use them in a PM or message.

Maybe it's because you're using Createmybb.

If you're trying to use remote images (i.e. images hosted on other servers) they won't work with MyBB unless you have some sort of modification.

You should upload your images in your FTP client to images/smilies, and add them with a relative URL when you add a smilie (i.e. use a URL like "images/smilies/mysmilie.gif" instead of "http://example.com/somesmilie.gif")
