Does anyone know where I can find the "header" and "footer" files??
Would appreciate some direction since i'm new to MyBB.

the easiest way to edit those would be to go to the Admin CP and edit the templates: Footer and Header. If you don't know where the templates are, there is a scrollable area on the far left side of the ACP. Scroll down until you get to the templates section and chose Modify/Delete. Then Expand your template set and look for the Header and then Footer to edit.
They are editable via ACP:
Templates-->Modify/Delete--> (Theme)--> Expand --> footer or header
