Isn't there a "length" option in the Admin CP when you edit the custom profile field? Or is that only for text boxes...

hmmm there are two length options but I am not sure if its for the number of characters or the length of the box

Characters would how many letters, spaces and numbers there are. You set the number lower to limit how long the typing can be. The length... I'm not sure about.
