"->" refers to accessing a method or property of an object.
In the above, the $mybb variable is an object, and "something here" is either a property or method of the object.

MyBB doesn't have a WYSIWYG Editor...

When you say wysiwyg editor, MyBBoard dose not have one by default at this stage. Do you mean this current editor or the wysiwyg editor plugin?
It sure looks like one(though it displays the tags in plain text it sure looks like one)
It's got functions that insert smilies into posts and whatnot, just like any other forum software o.0. There is a WYSIWYG editor plugin if you want it, too...
