I'm thinking of installing a few mods, but im worried.

My PHP skills leave alot to be desired, so if anything goes wrong, i'm screwed.

If i back up the SQLDB, can i restore it, and reinstall the forum software (using the myBB installer) and it wont wipe my SQLDB?

If not, i'm good to go.
What you can do is create a folder on the server and call it backup. Then copy the whole forum to that folder..

I don't know your set up, but with cPanelX, it's just a matter of clicking the forum folder description and copying it to the backup folder. That's easier than backing up each individual file before you make any changes.

And also back-up your database.

You may also want to wait for some more advice before you start.

But if you have the room and access... My advice is to install a second copy of MyBB and practice with that one.
Just back up the files u have to change in case of a messup and the db.
OK, i'm gonna try soon.
You can back up your database, and if something goes wrong, reinstall MyBBoard, then restore your database backup.
Ah, ok.

any suggestions on an easy and useful mod to install?
Depends what you board is about. All mods are easy to install, provided the install files are clearly set out (like mine) and easy to follow. For eg, head on over to my mods thread and try a few.
It's a general off topic site.
