This is not related to mybb that much, but my site is a mybb forum. I keep going over the cpu limit that my freehostia account provides, but I have no idea why. I have removed a lot of plugins like someone suggested but Im still going over the limit. Does anyone know how I can reduce my cpu usage?

My account has been suspended numerous times now. Sad
Do you have scripts other than MyBB on your hosting account that could be causing it?
I'm sorry I'm rather new to this. Do you mean plugins? I have disabled and deleted a lot of plugins like zinga suggested to me. If you could explain more about scripts that would be great.

thanks, Mc Cabe

EDIT: Did I make this thread a month ago! oops sorry for the bump
No, not plugins. Actual scripts apart from MyBB on your site? A script is a file/program that runs code.
no, not that I'm aware of. I just have the mybb files. I looked in the traffic stats and found this to be using the most cpu:

1 29880 59.02% 2528 2.43% /forum/xmlhttp.php

I dont even know what that is.
That's the file that handles all AJAX related requests to the server.

Quick Edit (Posts and Threads), Inline Moderation, etc. all run through that file.
I guess I cant really remove that then. However, freehostia suggest I blocked the IP's causing the most traffic:

How can I find out who is causing the most traffic and then how to block them?

Thanks, Mc Cabe
I'm unsure of the perks you get from FreeHostia, but if you have cPanel (doubt it, considering you're on a free host) then you can check your web logs.

I'm not quite sure I agree with your hosts reply though, on a normal site xmlhttp.php shouldn't be generating enough usage that starts making the CPU go over the limit. And blocking IP's which are generating the most traffic is going to effect your forums activity, unless it's Spam Bots.

How big is your forum?
Do you have a shoutbox? The AJAX shoutbox uses xmlhttp. Chances are, the majority of requests to xmlhttp is through the AJAX shoutbox.

If your host has "investigated" this issue and has found that some IP addresses are causing the load, it would probably be easiest to ask them to forward you these IP addresses so that you can ban them. Even better, you could ask them to ban the IPs at the server level, but I doubt they'll be nice enough to do that.
