Quick Question: Does a webserver always have to been on?
If you want it to serve to the web, then yes

I have the same hardware softlayer will charge $220+ a month for colocated for $90 per month with the same bandwidth. I paid $800 for the hardware (awesome Dell deal). I save $130 a month. Over the course of 3 years (life expectancy of a server is probably 3-5) I save about $4000. That imho is significant especially since the mybb project is free. Any savings for Chris is great.
Just a thought. And if you ever need server help I think you have enough qualified guys around you Chris.
One of the things is that hosting anything in Australia is, basically, a ripoff.
I guess it's possible for Chris to make some deal to get someone else to build the system remotely, but yeah, he'll have to deal with that.
Tell me about it! Hosting in Australia is just stupid. Its like $170/year for the most basic shared hosting plan with like 250mb of space. Not to mention that they all have minuscule bandwidth

The forum is alot faster than it was but my isp simply hates american hosts, especially when its peak time in the uk

Even at Softlayer data centers? Wow I mean those are big ones they aren't just some small time things tons of major companies are hosted there. Glad I live in the states then because that's where most sites are hosted

.
The server's less than 200km away from me

I love the speed!
I have noticed a considerable change since i used the forums a while back, good stuff.
nice server ... its faster than old
as usual the speed is fast in NY
doesn't it also depend on what kind of internet connection you have?
i think it does.
