How can we find the usergroup number?
The only way I can think of is make a user for every group and then look in phpmyadmin

Download a backup of mybb_usergroups, and you'll find the group ID number there.

Group Legend
================
1. Unregistered Not logged in
2. Registered
3. Super Moderators
4. Administrators
5. Awaiting Activation
6. Moderators
7. Banned

problem is I am using custom groups
