Full Version: Some features I would like to see

1. A specialist versions for PDA. I think they getting more and more popular, but if you enter a forum page, it is normally really hard not to loose the overview because of teh much smaller resolution. So if you enter the page with a PDA browser, you get redirected to a optimized template (also using less bandwith).

2. A modul system like in PHPNuke. So if you want to change stuff of the portal site, you can do that with an interfece, rather than coding at a template. Like having an on off switch for some parts, you can choose if the module is left, center or right and making an order with numbers.

3. A switch in the Admin CP where you can choose if you want to have the portal page, as the start page, or the "normal" page (I now there are tutorials how to change that, it just would be easier for people.

4. Some fields on the portal page, where you can write in custom stuff, and including in that, an edit buttom, which will only visible for admins. I really don't like to go to the admin CP, each time I want to change something Smile

OK, these are my ideas, hope you like them, and the developers (after the released MyBB Gold Wink ) or modders (most likely, if at all, after MyBB was released) like to convert them into reality.
Hehe I was thinking about exactly those 4 things would be good as well.

Im waiting to see what features are available in myBB gold before really proceeding.
with the PDAs in mind I would like to have some kind of an export-function to a standard(ish) calendar format so I could import it to my PocketPC-phone calendar
yea they area ll good suggesstions, paticauly the third one about having an option to switch between using the portal as the homepage or not, thats good, I might make it as a mod actually.
I don't get what the big deal is with portals. They seem so limiting. Why can't we just have a blank index.php page that can pull details from the messageboard database. That way we can make the design look like whatever we want and just put in a <top5posts> tag and it would then display the top 5 posts, ect. No being stuck with a static 3 column view where we move blocks around. But I do like your ideas. They could be applied to a nonportal CMS as well.
I think myBBgold will include the portal function?
If not it should be easy enough to implement.

Um, the idea of switching stuff around in the portal, that should be easy enough to do.

your number 4 idea is okay, but my only problem would be that I'd make it so you'd have to be logged into your adminCP to edit them.

I thought more of a function like at any other post. As admin you always can edit the post of any user, so I was thinking here of the same, if you are an admin there will a edit buttom epear, and you easily can edit the stuff.

I think the deal with the portal page is, that it is already there, so people don't have to think about a complete new design, they can install the forum, appley a theme, and you have a start page without a lot of coding knowledge. For people with higher skills and more time there is always the possibility to just directly edit the templates (what I also did).

To make it more compicate to do, but easier for the admins Wink, have you ever used http://news.google.com/? On the top right corner is a Link "Customized News", after using that you can drag and trop the modules, thsi function got really good critics, because it is so easy for the users (You also could use that for the index page, so users could customize there own page, but whereas google saves it in a cookie, at least the portal page should be save in the database).
