I have access to PHP version 4.3.9 and system administrator of our organisation says that version will not be updated too soon. Can I still install the latest version?

I read from installation wiki that PHP version 4.3.11 is needed... Is this crucial? What will be broken? 4.3.9 and 4.3.11 does not seem to be a huge difference?!

Or then, could taking some older release be an option to overcome this problem? Which one? Version 1.2.0?

It's somewhat annoying when your host doesn't want to upgrade. The changes are primarily bug fixes in PHP, so nothing should be broken.

You can certainly try it on PHP 4.3.9 - it should work, provided that release of PHP didn't have some bugs which cause MyBB to die...
