It would be great if we had a feature or mod that would allow us hide selected forums (even the link to the forum) from view from anyone thats not allowed to view the forum.

Currently you can ether hide all forums from members without permissions or show all forums to everyone but ones without permissios get an error page.

I would it so we could select which forums are never seen unless allowed and select which forums are always seen but if not allowed the get the errro page.

Cheers
Alan
Um, you can choose whether to display specific forums or not to specific usergroups by changing the forum's permissions... ?
Oh, and make sure AdminCP -> Board Settings -> Change -> Forum Home Options -> Hide Private Forums? is set to Yes
thats not what i mean.

Currently how you say is how its set but this is my reason to what i want:

I have a forum labelled 'Keep Out - Private' which is set to only be accessed by Admins, Super Mods, and custom usergroups Private & Private D&C

When we feel that a member has contributed enough we give that member access to this forum (as an incentive to use our boards) its a place where they can let there hair down and not have to follow all the boards rules. In order for this to be more of an incentive we would like for any member to see that this forum is there see the post counts and the last post title (as it does any other forum) but when unauthorised members click it they get an error screen, seeing the forum there and used by members it makes them want to access it and use the site more...

Which is already achievable if we set hidden forums off but...

We also have another forum called 'Staff Room' which is only for staff (admins & super mods) which we don't want any member at all other then admins & super mods to be able to see that it exists at all (completely hidden) which we can do if we set hide forums to ON but then it hides the 'Keep Out - Private' forum again!!
Go to AdminCP -> Forum Management -> Permissions.
For your "Private" forum, set the permissions for your non-special usergroups, Can View Threads Within Forum to No.
Then for your Staff forum, set Can View Forum for all non-staff usergroups, to No.

I dont have these two options

Can View Threads Within Forum,
Can View Forum

Only View
Which version of MyBB are you running?
1.2.9

thought about upgrading to 12 but i have alot of mods and additial code i have put into the board.

If you think that i can do what i need to in 12 then ill spend an afternoon doing it.

Another idea to get what im after is to make just the Staff Room not appare in the index.php but be accessable via a link, i can then place that link in the welcome header-admin templete next to Admin CP.
I'd upgrade to 1.2.12 if I were you regardless. Unless you want to be hacked.

You CAN do what you are trying to do. Smile

First make sure your group settings are correct and that every person on your forum is in the PRIMARY group you want them to be. REMEMBER though mybb has secondary permissions as well which means you can have a normal member group and a member group/custom<-----Whatever you wanna call it. This is so you can achieve what your trying to do as the secondary grants permissions as well for viewing forums etc. Which means you can then set the forum permissions to your liking. Always wise to have staff in it's own group so you can have a forum just for them. In short you can achieve what your trying to do via secondary group settings. I know that because i have a simular set up to what your trying to do. Remember as well you can always password protect a forum as well. Just have to count on your members not to leak the password.

BTW as Tikitiki said i would upgrade if i were you as well. Smile
HarryWx im unsure to how your saying to set this up??
