Hi,

I'm new to MyBB but have been doing some testing.

When you set the background to black the icons (Search, Member List, Calendar, Help, plus all others) have white pixels around the edge and do not look nice.

It would be great to have the option of using black background icons. These would look much better on most dark colours.

Two ways to do this:

- PNGs (IE6 is finally on the way out, and many web devs are already using them with the IE6 javascript fix)

- Simple toggle option in admin area that switches between 2 sets of GIFs.
You can simply use the GDK and inverse the background. I also believe there's a set of images on the mods site that already inversed
I have some at mybb central and I think Firefoxwiz has some at mybbthemes.8ez.com as well.

Unfortunately, with so many computers still on pretty much stock Windows XP installs, IE6 is actually still widely used...
I know for a fact that all the computers at my Uni have IE6, all computers across all public libraries in Brisbane use IE6, and the majority of computers at my workplace also are on IE6.
...and it doesn't look like they're going to change any time soon either.

The IE6 Javascript fix has its own issues as well (I find many PNGs don't get sized properly)

Do you mean there is there a PSD file to edit? If so that is very useful, but still fiddly to change every image and re-save over each one correctly.

I know this is not a huge issue but an out of the box toggle would make life easier.

As a developer I appreciate the PNG issues, but in my experience the fix works ok. I'm involved in a number of UK sites and all show IE7 is doing quite well, but other countries may be behind. I know universities and such places can be really bad with upgrading, and they probably never will until sites start looking broken. That being said I agree PNG is not the best solution, and I'm not sure why I thought it was a good idea to mention it. Wink

hmm the pc's at my uni use IE6 but i just install firefox to the pc i use all the time so ye Wink
Hehehe, I can't stand IE6 either. I have a copy of Firefox Portable.

Yeah, I just wish IE6 would die - I personally use PNGs all the time (but then, I can't really be bothered, personally, about IE6 users).
I've checked out the mods area and both the sites mentioned above, but can't find a full set of icons/smiles/buttons for black background anywhere. Also in Photoshop you cannot easily invert the current images as you only have gifs that come with anti-aliased white based pixels.

Any further suggestions? I'd even settle for a PSD to export the files myself.
I'm not a image expert, but I'm sure you can use something like the magic wand tool to select and remove the edges.

There's probably a tool which can trim edges too. Or maybe some colour replacer tool.

Hope that helps.
Editing gifs never produces good results and touching up loads of them would be a nightmare.

However, the Photoshop file is here:

So I will get on with using that.

Edit: it appears to be missing all the smiles, toplinks and icons, just has the blue rectangles! It looks like I'm just going to have to install my own images.
