I think you should match your portal (Joomla! right?) theme to your forums' theme and have the dark theme as an extra option.

But yeah this dark theme will be just a option. Getting ready to try and do a light theme. Maybe i will try your idea? Just need a better theme for Joomla too as i dont care for the one i have. lol
