I added a setting how can i access the values within templates?

Let's say the identifier you gave the setting is
my_setting, you could use:
{$mybb->settings['my_setting']}
okay i got that my i have i have a problem with the setting itself when i go to edit it i just get this:
Info banner text
text shown on info banner.
and no way to edit the setting value am i missing something?

I really don't know what you mean. Can you explain further? Or maybe give a screenshot?
Are you sure you have selected a settings type?
Otherwise, try deleting the settings group and try again.
I can't seem to reproduce your issue.
